Choosing a light chair

As we have told you on some occasion, the transition from a stroller to a lightweight chair depends on many factors, and it is important to assume that the better the choice of the first one, the later you will move to the second one and therefore the more you will have amortized your investment. Of course we are thinking about your pocket, but don't forget that the most important thing for us is your baby. Despite everything, all parents end up buying a lightweight chair, and that is why today we want to give you a list of the characteristics that you should analyze in a chair, so that your choice is appropriate. The perfect chair doesn't exist, but we can help you make it as close to perfect as possible.

The first thing you should know is that, according to the current regulations, lightweight chairs are divided into two groups: those that hold up to 15 kg and those that hold up to 22 kg. It is common to see in the descriptions of some chairs that they hold up to 25 kg or even 30 kg. You should know that 22 kg is already a considerable weight, so insisting on looking for a chair that says that you can use it up to 25 kg does not make much sense, since it is also the manufacturer that says that its chair does so. The approval does not go beyond 22 kg.

Types of folding. There are several types of folding for light chairs, and your choice will depend on several factors, but mainly it is the space in your car that can make you opt for one type or another of folding. To the traditional cane and book-shaped folds, we can add a somewhat larger but very flat fold, optimizing the space, that some carts come with.

Chassis characteristics. The chassis is the main element of the stroller. When choosing your light chair you should look at several aspects. A chassis can be light, but highly resistant. There are many parents who still associate light frames with strollers or fragile lightweight chairs, and this is wrong: a lot of progress has been made in the development of materials in all fields and that progress has also reached lightweight strollers. In addition to the weight and resistance, it is interesting that it is a material that can be cleaned easily and not with special products. Of all the materials, aluminum continues to be the favorite of most parents.

Suspension and damping. Although they are two concepts that are sometimes confused, you should know that the suspension refers to the entire assembly of your seat, it seeks comfort and the best handling of it, and it does so by absorbing the irregularities of the terrain that you will encounter when you walk your baby. Today, many chairs have a good suspension system, without seeing the springs or springs, which is what many associate with shock absorbers, when incorrectly comparing cars with strollers. These types of springs, which were previously seen in all cars, were part of the suspension system. In summary, a light chair (also strollers or trios) can have suspension, even if you do not see external spring-shaped elements.

Wheels. Although some light cars and chairs with inflatable wheels are still seen, the best choice currently is wheels that are not inflatable, to avoid punctures. There is a wide variety of more or less technical materials whose choice may be conditioned by the type of terrain on which you will frequently walk with your baby. The wheel must be made of a material that is resistant to wear and puncture, so that pebbles or other objects can easily get stuck into it. A fairly common material in lightweight chair wheels is recycled rubber with a high-density EVA interior. Also make sure that the wheels can be easily removed, as sometimes it is necessary to remove them to mount the chair in the car (we hope that your choice is correct in every way and this is not necessary), but above all because you must remove them periodically to grease the axles, or to care for and clean them more easily.

Handlebar. The handlebars can be continuous or double. In the society in which we live, with so much dependence on the mobile phone, we believe that one-handed operation that allows you to use continuous handlebars is a better option. In addition to this feature, the handlebars can be fixed (these are usually those of those light chairs that have the folding mechanism on the handlebar itself) or adjustable, the choice of which may be convenient depending on the height of the people who are going to handle the chair. There are dads and moms who prefer the telescopic adjustable ones and others who consider the multi-position ones more useful. There is something for all needs!!

Textiles. Textiles are the part that will have the most contact with your baby, so you should make sure that they are appropriate materials that prevent overheating, preferably breathable and washable. Although if it is not, it is not necessarily a problem, it is recommended that the fabric of your chair be removable, as this will make it easier for you to clean and care for it.

Front bar or crash bar. This bar is usually covered in textile, which must be padded for the baby's safety, but it is important for your comfort when getting your child in and out of the chair that it is easily removable. The most convenient thing is that you can lower and raise it without having to remove it from both sides.

Hood. The hood must be extendable, because you must keep in mind that it serves to protect your child not only from the sun but also from the cold. We have told you this on some occasions, but we take this opportunity to remind you: the hood is a dense material that stands between the sun and your child's skin, just like you do when you stand under an umbrella on the beach. It is no use adding a label that says UV 50+ protection.

Back. The backrests of most of the lightweight chairs on the market have several positions, so your baby can lie down more or less depending on the moment. There are two ways to recline the backrest in a lightweight chair: using a strap system or using a traction or lever system. The first allows you more positions, because it is a continuous system, which you will regulate as needed.  The second system, although more comfortable for most parents, will allow you between 3 and 4 positions, which is, on the other hand, sufficient.

Footrest. Like the previous one, a footrest with several positions will facilitate the comfort and rest of your child. Nowadays, except for very basic strollers, most chairs incorporate it.

In general, these would be the characteristics that you should analyze before buying a light chair, although we will briefly summarize some interesting aspects of the chairs that may also be of help to you:

- Look at the options you will have to grab from covers protective or sacks winter

- If you bring bubble or rain plastic included, better than better, but if it doesn't come with it, ask your reference store for compatible bubbles

- It may be interesting for you that the chair incorporates some locking mechanism when it is folded, so that it does not open easily, especially when you carry it in the car

-It may also be useful for you to have the chair can you leave her standing when it is folded, that is, it includes some system of the so-called stand alone

We hope that our information is useful to you, and remember one of our maxims: without information you have no choice. Always ask your questions, because the beneficiaries are you and your baby.
