What features should a co-sleeping mini-crib have?

In another of our publications we have talked to you about the advantages of practicing co-sleeping, and especially doing it with a mini-crib and not with the standard 60x120 cm cribs, both for a matter of regulations and for a matter of comfort and effectiveness: the dimensions of the mini-co-sleeping cribs allow you greater proximity to your baby and therefore enhance all the advantages that practicing co-sleeping intrinsically entails.

What should you take into account when choosing the co-sleeping mini crib for your baby? The co-sleeping mini cribs that exist on the market can always be used as co-sleeping, but also as an ordinary mini crib, when it is not attached to the parents' bed. We are going to try to give you a series of requirements that you should take into account for the best choice for the  rest of your baby.

-          Make sure it is adjustable to different heights to ensure that the baby's mattress is at the same height as your bed. Measure the height of your bed before purchasing to avoid surprises and gaps between the mattresses. The more possible heights it has, the more easily you will put both at the same height. Normally mini cribs have between 4 and 6 heights, ranging between 65 and 80 cm. It may also be useful if you can raise one side more than the other to give your baby a little inclination if the pediatrician considers it, for example, if he or she has reflux.

-          Make sure that the folding side, the one you remove or move to do co-sleeping, has an easy but safe opening and closing system.

-          Ventilation is also an important element that you should take into account. It is ideal that the folding side has a mesh for ventilation, but it is also ideal that the opposite side and the sides have it. Having several sides with mesh makes it easier for your baby to rest, not only because if it is hot, it will be less with ventilation, but also because it makes it easier for carbon dioxide not to accumulate and oxygen to flow better inside.

-          Look for the quality and breathability of the textiles. The quality of these goes in the same direction as the previous one: facilitating ventilation

-          It is highly recommended that co-sleeping minicunas be removable and washable.

-          Since there are many types of adult beds, take a good look at the legs of your crib, as it is highly recommended that they be extendable to be able to be used on all types of beds, whether they have a canape or a slatted base.

-          As you know, to co-sleep, your bed and the baby's crib are joined with a strap system. Make sure this fixing system is strong and of sufficient length

-          Also thinking about your comfort, it is important that your crib has at least two wheels. Since you can also use the mini crib without co-sleeping, the fact that it has wheels will allow you to easily take it to the living room, for example, so you can sleep while watching your favorite series.

-          A carrying bag will also make your mobility much easier. If you have to move, travel, go away for a weekend, with a carrying bag of its size it will be easier and your baby will not miss his crib

-          Make sure the mattress is of optimal quality, that it is breathable and preferably anti-suffocation. And make sure the size is appropriate, never smaller than the dimensions of the mini crib. We tell you this because although most mini-cribs come with their own mattress, there are many parents who opt for a higher-end mattress.

Do not think that it is complicated to buy a mini co-sleeping crib, with all the requirements that we have recommended that you look for in it: by pointing out so many aspects to take into account, the only thing we want is for you to choose well, because as we always tell you: WE CARE ABOUT YOU AND YOUR BABY. And remember that everything that is related to your baby's rest is health for the future. A baby spends so many hours sleeping in the first months of life that the choice of the mini-crib and later the crib must be made exhaustively. Do you have any questions you want to ask us?
