Safety tips for baby items

Although we immediately associate the concept of safety for babies with the car, that is, with car seats, when it comes to children's road safety, it is important that you know that all the items you will buy for your baby must meet strict safety requirements, a regulation that is mandatory for manufacturers and brands. At Asalvo all our items are made with love because we think about you and your baby and we care about their comfort and safety, but also your peace of mind. Some of the benefits that baby items bring are not arbitrary whims but requirements whose objective is safety. Briefly, we are going to review with you some aspects related to the safety of the childcare items that your child will need:

Do you want to have a safe stroller? Keep reading.

- Strollers or light chairs:

1st Buy a chair that adapts to your circumstances and those of your baby, this will make it safe. Choose a stroller or light chair that is approved for use up to 15 kg or up to 22 kg, depending on your baby's needs.

2nd Make sure that the safety harnesses are adjustable so that they perform the appropriate restraint function, and if they have harness protectors “pads”, the more comfortable it will be. Use the 5-point harness whenever possible: although we know that you don't lose sight of your baby, he or she can slip out if you don't use the full harness. When you are choosing the chair, make sure it has padding in the area where you attach the harnesses, which act as a protector for intimate areas.

3º The protective front bar, or armrest: preferably padded so that your baby does not get bumped and has an anchoring system so that when he grows he cannot remove it alone.

Important: If you are one of those who carry a lot of the bag that you hang on the handlebar, remember that the stability of the cart is not designed taking this weight into account, therefore, always use the storage basket and thus ensure that the chair does not tip over.

- In a previous post we have indicated the regulations that cribs and mini-cribs must comply with. Although everything may be obvious, pay close attention to the ends of the crib, ensuring that they do not have sharp edges. If you are going to practice co-sleeping, always do it with the mini-crib: to practice it with a 60x120 cm crib, you must buy a co-sleeping kit that does not comply with any regulations: they will sell it to you as a co-sleeping kit but it is nothing more than a bar that you will put up to prevent the crib from opening. Related to rest but also to safety, it is vitally important that the mattress you buy is anti-suffocation.

- There is a wide variety of hammocks and swings on the market. The fundamental difference between the two is that the swings swing automatically, with batteries or a power adapter. Whether you buy one or the other, take into account the weight of your baby. You should not use suspended structures such as swings if your baby is over 9 kg. All hammocks must incorporate a system of small legs or a U-shaped leg to be able to leave it fixed without the swinging movement if you are going to use it for children weighing more than 9 kg. This is important to keep in mind because it will avoid scares. And always make sure that your little one stays with the harness on in the hammock and swing.

- When choosing the bathtub we would like to make some recommendations. If you are going to use a bathtub with legs, make sure that they are resistant and if it has wheels, that they have brakes. When the bucket is suspended or supported, it is better that the bucket is rigid and not foldable because the former are much more resistant and must support the weight of the child but also the water, even if you think it is more comfortable to pick it up if it is foldable. If you are looking for comfort, you can opt for a folding bathtub, but it does not have high legs, but rather its base is directly and completely supported on a surface. One of the most common problems when bathing is the temperature of the water: bathtubs with thermosensitive plugs, which change color with the temperature, will be very useful. And without trying to scare you, we remind you that you should never leave a baby alone at bath time: even with water levels of 2 cm, there have been cases of children drowning.

- Feeding time in the high chair can and should be a beautiful moment to share with your baby. Therefore, avoid scares during this time: that your high chair has a 5-point harness and that it is always on, because it is very normal that during mealtime, you get up to get napkins, another cutlery, change the bib, grab dessert...

- One last item that you will use when your baby is a little older is the bed barrier. Bed barriers are folding structures that you can place on the sides or foot of the bed so that your little one does not fall while sleeping. You should look at two important characteristics when choosing it for your peace of mind and the safety of the baby: that it has a base or lower structure long enough for the mattress to act as a counterweight and that it has an additional safety element that you can put on the opposite side of the bed, so that it stops and prevents the barrier from tipping over. You will understand it better with these two photos that we show you

At Asalvo, we think about the present of you and your baby, but we look to the future of the planet where our children will live, including yours. That is why we are aware of environmental protection, which is everyone's task. Safety may lie in the items you will buy for your baby, but living safely is also living on a cleaner planet with more breathable air. Together we can!!!
