Wooden cribs are an excellent option for your baby's rest.

If you are one of those who, after analyzing the advantages and disadvantages of different types of cribs, have chosen the wooden crib as an option for your baby's rest compared to other options available on the market, such as co-sleeping mini-cribs, bassinets or travel cots, we will try to help you in the best choice. Think that your baby will spend many hours in his crib and that his rest is closely related to his well-being, his health and his future development..

The advantages of wooden cribs

Wooden cribs, from an aesthetic and functional point of view, are the most versatile on the market:

-LYou can buy decorated ones, but also you decorate them.

-CThey blend and fit very well in practically all environments., regardless of the type of decoration you have in your bedroom or in the baby's future bedroom.

- Wood, thanks to its physical appearance and being a natural material, gives the crib a contribution of warmth, in addition to being acoustic and thermal insulator.

- Wooden cribs they are very resistant and they can be passed from generation to generation, since they are made of a hard and not very fragile material, their care and maintenance is simple and their repairs are easy to carry out.

How to choose a safe wooden crib

Not all cribs are the same and although in our country the cribs sold have passed strict controls, that is, they comply with the safety standards of European regulations, there are many things that you may not know and that you should take into account when the time comes to buy it:

1. That your crib has standard measurements:

Although most of the cribs seen on the market have an average size of 60x120 cm, there are exceptions. Choosing a wooden crib with standard stockings will make everything much easier for you, since both mattress and textile manufacturers (sheets, protectors, duvets, bumpers) They use those measurements as a reference.

2. Always use a crib following the regulations:

As we have indicated to you on some occasion, 60x120 cm wooden cribs cannot be marketed for use as co-sleeping: It is a regulatory issue. If you buy a wooden crib and buy the so-called co-sleeping kit separately, you are assembling the crib not following the manufacturer's recommendations and instructions, with the loss of safety that this entails. The mini cribs and co-sleeping cribs Specially designed for this practice they do offer you all the guarantees.

3. Make sure the bed base of your crib is height adjustable:

It is desirable that it be at least three heights, ranging between 22 and 48 cm. This will allow you to raise the bed base more or less depending on your baby's growth, it will prevent your baby from getting out and it will provide you with easy and comfortable access. Although it is obviously not mandatory that the bed base be adjusted in height, the instructions for use and warnings should include a reminder that the lowest position of the bed base is always the safest. Even if you think it is the most uncomfortable, it is obvious that safety must prevail: we recommend that if the child already remains seated due to his age or physical development, you always use this lowest position of the bed base.

4. That the bed base of your baby's crib is made of slats and not continuous:

The bed base is the base of the mattress, its support and therefore, it is very important for a complete and adequate rest. The slats of the bed base provide elasticity, flexibility and breathability to the mattress, prolonging its useful life. The regulations require that the distance between the slats be less than 6 cm.

5. Always check the technical specifications of the crib:

Although the cribs sold in our country comply with current regulations, we want to tell you some technical specifications of it, so that when you buy it, you can be even more calm regarding security:

- The bars should be between 4.5 cm and 6.5 cm apart, to avoid accidents, and that your baby could put his head between them.

- The Edges and protruding parts of your crib should be rounded or flattened and must not contain projections or sharp edges that could cause damage.

- The paints and varnishes must be non-toxic because in his learning your baby has a tendency to suck everything around him.

6. Choose wooden cribs with four wheels:

Preferably opt for a Wooden crib with four wheels, to facilitate its mobility. In this case, make sure that the four wheels have a locking system to be able to leave the wooden crib fixed.

7. Check that the crib has a secure sliding side:

Also thinking about your comfort without subtracting one bit of security from your baby, it is desirable that the crib has a sliding side. And this sliding side must have a double locking system. We will not tire of insisting that a sliding winger cannot be understood as an expendable winger. If you assemble the wooden crib by removing this side in order to glue it to your bed, to practice co-sleeping, the crib is not assembled correctly.

8. Look for a sustainable and environmentally friendly crib:

Finally, take into account everything related to sustainability and care of the environment. Make sure it is from a brand committed to caring for our planet, that uses wood from sustainable forests. Commitment to the environment is everyone's business.
