However, this trend has been changing over the years, and there really is a list of the most current popular names, in which the undisputed queen of this last decade is Lucía. This being the name most chosen by Spanish families from 2010 onwards. Sofía and Martina follow Lucía on the podium respectively. With María we can see that there are names that are timeless, being the fourth most popular current name. Finally, Julia, Paula, Valeria, Emma, Daniela and Carla follow respectively on the list.

In the case of girl names, we can see that they alsoWe continue the trend of reducing names and looking for shorter alternatives, as in the case of boys. We avoid compound names, and even less those that begin with María. It is true that, on the other hand, in the case of girls a particular phenomenon is emerging: inspiration is sought in old names. Examples of this are Martina, Josefina or Jimena, among others. Also in patronymic the fact of using names of fictional characters such as Arya or Daenerys, or of plants and shrubs such as Cataleya (species of orchid). We have also seen differences at the provincial level, with your name being more likely to be María del Pilar if you were born in Huesca, while in Melilla it is most common to use the name Fátima.

This is how we conclude the list of the 10 most popular names in Spain in the case of girls. Did you know all the variables that differentiate us in different parts of Spain?
